Shasta County Mountain Search and Rescue is a team of devoted volunteers serving our community with emergency response, outdoor education, and safety training. We are always looking for new members who would love to join our team.
What is needed to join?
- Commitment to learn, achieve and maintain the skill levels involved in SAR (Search and Rescue).
- Time to make the required meetings, trainings and searches, also other team related community interest projects, and fund raisers.
- Money to purchase and maintain necessary equipment and for the cost of some certification classes.
- Determination to be a team member under all circumstances.

Steps to joining the team
- Attend three consecutive monthly team meetings. Meetings are held the second Thursday of every month at 6:30pm at the Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services, 2425 Breslauer Way, Redding, CA. Click here for a map to the meeting location.
- Obtain NASAR Sartech III certification. You can purchase the book textbook "Introduction to Search and Rescue" and after study take the test online to obtain this certification at www.nasar.org.
- Own a NASAR 24 hour pack. You can see the list of equipment needed for this pack on our Gear List page.
- If you have met steps two and three you will be given an interview after your third consecutive team meeting. At this interview the executive team will determine if you are qualified to join the team. Most new members join the team as auxiliary members and then move up to active member status. However there are exceptions where a member may join as an active member.
- Upon successful completion of the interview the application process begins with the Shasta County Sheriff's Department. All applicants must pass this evaluation before officially becoming members of the team.
